Sister Somer, Mom & Krystal
But running from the struggle hasn’t always been easy, most days it’s been hard. “I was out on my own at age 16, and always working at least two jobs to make ends meet,” says Krystal. “By the time I was in my early 20’s I already had one baby and another one on the way. I was working as a waitress at Joe’s Crab Shack and I was the best server they had. I still remember that Thursday night though that pushed me over the edge. The restaurant closed at midnight and at 11:55 pm, a table of 20 people walked in. It was the worst table ever. The worked me so hard, even asking for extra food, but I still killed it! At the end of the night, the bill came to $1,000. They left me two pennies on the table. I was done.”
Looking for a better way to earn a living and gain the respect she knew she deserved, Krystal saw an ad from a Facebook friend, Samantha Desthers. Samantha helped her get an interview at USHEALTH Advisors, but Krystal didn’t really know or understand what it was all about. She only knew one thing, she wasn’t telling her husband about it, at least not yet. When she woke up on the morning of the interview she realized she had nothing to wear. “My husband, AJ and I had been on a diet for the past six months,” says Krystal. “He had lost 15o pounds, I lost 80 pounds, so I had no dress clothes that fit me. I went to Target and bought some clothes that morning, but we were in such a financial bind, I actually returned them the next day.”
Krystal says she went into the interview with a group of other people and listened as Field Sales leader Marcos Figueroa told his story. “He talked about his success,” says Krystal, “his mindset and the financial rewards of HOPE, Helping Other People Everyday. Jason Grief, the Division leader then came in and said it’s simple, ‘if you work hard, and help enough people, you can make a lot of money here.’ “He sold me on the opportunity and after Jason and Marcos had a conversation, they said they would offer me the position to become an agent. The contracting fee was $92, so I swiped my credit card. It was probably the last $92 my husband and I had in the bank. I called my husband to tell him, crying hysterically. He was furious. AJ never acts impulsively, he researches everything. But I had made my decision. I quit my job as a server right away. I got licensed in four days, (health and life), and got appointed with the company. I didn’t have time to spare.”
There was no change to spare either, with money so tight, Krystal knew she had to make it happen. “I got on the phones,” Krystal says. “I called a ton of shared leads and I got my first new business, my first sale, on December 2nd, 2016. I closed two more deals on that very first day. One of the policies got issued right away and my first week’s commission was $846. I didn’t stop, working 12 hours-a-day, practicing my scripts until my kids could say them too. My husband says, ‘I’ve been researching and researching this company and all I see is if you work hard, you can make it happen.’”
Work hard she did. In her second week, Krystal says her commission was over $3,000. It was the holiday season when Krystal started the business in early December and there was no money to buy anything, much less Christmas gifts for her two young daughters. But because of her efforts, all of that changed. Right before Christmas, the rent got paid and the girls had gifts.
